Bags Collection

Bags Collection

We are thrilled to announce the launched of our new Bags Collection. This collection has been developed together with our new partner in Cambodia, an amazing project we have known for many years and we have always admired for the work they do and how they do it.

Why a new partner?

Our experience shows us that in many cases poverty forces parents into desperate measures. These include sending their children out to work (often dangerous work with health and safety risks), and keeping them out of school to do that. In some cases, parents will give up their children to institutional care, which is detrimental to the child’s well-being.

Hundreds of millions of children are pushed onto the margins of society around the world. Friends International, our partner, works with children and youth who lack opportunity or are among the most marginalized, and with their parents and their communities.

Our first Bags collection has been produced in one of their social businesses in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. There, families receive support to keep their children in school by training and finding employment to caregivers in production skills.

What is so special of the Bags Collection?

Bloombo’s Bags collection was designed on the spot, in the workshop of our partner in Phnom Pehn. This way we have been able to understand better the limitations they face on their work, in terms of materials available, technical possibilities and also, to see in situ their capabilities and the great work done by the team there. It was a very intensive and challenging process and the result was a stunning bags collection.

For this first collection we choose 2 emblematic materials. Recycled gummy and typical cambodian textile. Cambodian streets are full of bicycles and motorbikes. The amount of tyres used and disposed every year is enormous. We could not have found a more sustainable and available material for this first collection. On the other side, we wanted to give to this collection a Cambodian flavour, so we use typical Sarong cloths with geometrical prints. Both combine resulted into a beautiful colourful collection, sustainable, fair and absolutely superb.

The process of recycling tyres is made totally manually. The gummy used for the bags come from the inner tubes of old tyres. They have to be washed and cleaned to remove glue, mud and any other dirtiness. Then, they are cut into the different parts of the bag and sewed and mixed with the cloth. Then comes the inner side with its pocket, the zips are added and the end result, are these awesome bags and the matching laptop cases.

Have a look at this amazing collection and tell us what you think!
